In Mexico it is very dangerous to be a Journalists or a reporters. Mainly because they have no protection against violent attacks and harassment. From 2000 to July 2012, 83 journalists have been killed and 16 have disappeared. Authorities have continuously failed to investigate and prosecute the crimes against the members of the press. In 2006, Mexico had created a special prosecutor's office for crimes against freedom of expression and increased its authority in 2010 however it was still ineffective in prosecuting the cases. More than 630 attacks on the press were reported from 2006 to mid 2012, and only one prosecutor was sentenced with a criminal charge.
