The term Yugoslav Wars refers to a series of separate (but related) wars that occurred in Yugoslavia between 1990 and 2001, and include the War in Slovenia (1991), The Croatian War of Independence (1991–1995), The Bosnian War (1992–1995), The Kosovo War (1998–1999), the Insurgency in the Preševo Valley (1999–2001), and the Insurgency in the Republic of Macedonia (2001). The outcome led to the breakup of Yugoslavia and the creation of many different states.

The are considered to be the most deadly European conflicts since the World Wars and are particularly known for the war crimes committed by those involved, as well as the genocide that occurred. It is estimated that between 130,000 and 140,000 people lost their lives in the conflicts.
