Oliver Tambo (1917 - 1993) was an South Africa anti-apartheid politician and a central figure in the African National Congress (ANC). After the Sharpeville massacre (1960) Tambo left South Africa to hep set up the organization's foreign headquarters. In 1965, he established an ANC guerrilla training camp in Morogoro. After the death of the ANC president, Tambo served as the acting president until he was officially elected in 1969. Tambo's ANC provided focus for mass politics in South African in the late 1970s through the 1980s, even though he lived in exile until 1990.
