The case of Loving v. Virginia deals with marriage laws. It begins with a woman named Mildred Loving, an African American who had married Richard Loving, a Caucasian male. Their marriage took place in Washington D.C. on 1958. At the time Virginia did not allow marriage between the two different races. Thus, they were arrested as they had violated the Virginia law (that law was called the Anti- Miscegenation Statue - was passed in 1924) The case had taken place on April 10th of 1967. The cased resulted from the appeal of the original arrest. The Lovings filed an appeal stating that they felt the law was a direct violation of couple's right; Amendment.
Verdict: The Supreme Court over turned the Virginia State law and claimed that it was a direct violation of the 14th Amendment and also stated that it was a violation of an American citizen's individual freedoms.
