Nine high school students enrolled at Little Rock Central High School in 1957. Governor Orval Faubus sent troops to prevent them from entering. Eventually, the Federal Government sent military escorts to help them go to school. This was the first major public challenge to the Supreme Court decision Brown v. Board of Education (1954).
