The Jim Crow Laws were racial segregation laws (series of anti-black laws) that were passed between 1876 and 1965. They enforced segregation between white and black people in public places such as schools, transportation, restrooms, restaurants and etc. (Made it difficult for the Blacks to vote). Under Jim Crow, the African Americans were relegated to the status of a second class citizen. The name "Jim Crow" comes from an African American character in a song from 1832.
